Kenya is often filed under ‘anglophone Africa’ by French-speaking travelers, and that undersells it. Francophone guides work here year-round, the parks are compact and even a Nairobi stopover can hold a real safari. Here is the plan.

Un safari en francais? Oui.

French-speaking driver-guides are arranged per booking by operators such as Trunktrails Safaris and Valley Safaris, with the guide and full quote confirmed in writing within 24 to 48 hours. Travelers from France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada and francophone Africa all use the same arrangement.

Getting there

Check current nonstop options from Paris; one-stop routings via Gulf and East African hubs run daily from Paris, Brussels, Geneva and Montreal. Kenya uses an online eTA for most nationalities, applied for before departure.

Budget

Count on USD 250 to 450 per person per day for a mid-range private safari, all inclusive, as an indicative range. A one-day Nairobi National Park safari with pickup is far cheaper and is the best stopover wildlife day in Africa.

FAQ

Is one day really enough for a first taste?

For a stopover, yes. Nairobi National Park delivers lion, rhino and giraffe against the city skyline, 20 minutes from downtown.

Do the lodges work in French?

Your guide handles check-ins, menus and park formalities, so the trip runs in French even where lodge staff default to English or Swahili.

Best months?

July to October for the migration; January and February for dry weather and lighter crowds.

Explorer Notes

Hell’s Gate is one of the only Kenyan parks you can cross by bicycle among giraffe and zebra; rent bikes at the Elsa Gate. Nairobi National Park gates open at 6 am, and the first hour is the one that matters for cats.
